Our co-founder Kai Paul, sat down recently with podcaster Shan from @terriblehappytalks in Bali to talk about turning waste into a resource, the evolution of the Indosole flip flop production and the positive outlook for making change for the good of the planet, the people and the animals that inhabit it.
Kai discusses his Indonesian heritage, sources of inspiration, the “re-industrial” revolution, shedding ego, his University days, the conception of Indosole, charities and causes he supports, the Indosole good human initiative, his love for the Canggu community, Bali, and much more.
Kai explains the process of turning waste tires made into new products: the idea of using waste tires as a resource is not new, particularly footwear. Many people around the world, often disadvantaged, ingeniously saw the potential of this resource ever since discarded tires have existed.
"We can’t solve the problem of 1.6 bn waste tires dumped globally every year, but we can help shine a light on it, inform and educate and be of a bigger solution to just one of the huge environmental problems of our time."
"We’ve created a new materials resource. Tires are gold to us. We're repurposing something that would otherwise be a burden on the environment."
Indosole Flip Flops, Pool Slides, and Sandals allow the wearer to be part of a community that is moving forward and be part of a positive change.
